Erin Benford, PhD

About Me

Dr. Benford received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology (2008) followed by a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (2010) from Marshall University. In 2016, she completed a pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology at Alleghany General Hospital, Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Benford earned a doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from West Virginia University in 2o16. She then completed a two-year fellowship in clinical neuropsychology within the Department of Neurology at Alleghany General Hospital where she further honed her skills as a clinical neuropsychologist and developed an ALS caregiver support program. She has experience in neuropsychological  conditions including neurodegenerative disease, Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). In addition to neuropsychological assessment, Dr. Benford is experienced in conducting psychotherapy with adult patients presenting with a variety of psychological concerns including depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Dr. Benford previously served as the Director of Psychological Services for a large multidisciplinary practice in South Carolina before returning to West Virginia. She has enjoyed working as a volunteer with the National MS Society facilitating programs and previously serving as a member of the Workforce Development Committee for them. Dr. Benford is an active member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN). Dr. Benford will be joining our practice in September and has begun accepting patients.
